Bespoke Homeware Inspired by Kutahya Ceramics: Merging Heritage with Contemporary Design

The Kutahya Ceramics Inspired Textile Homeware Collection is a testament to our commitment at Common Muse to honor cultural heritage and adapt it to modern contexts. Kutahya, a city in western Anatolia, is known for its vibrant ceramics, which have adorned homes and palaces since the Ottoman era. Our goal was to translate these rich patterns and vivid colors into textiles—bridging the timeless artistry of Kutahya’s ceramics with the warmth and functionality of home textiles.

We approached this project by looking for ways to merge materials and mediums. Instead of merely reproducing patterns, we explored how the tactile qualities of ceramics—like their intricate glazes and dimensionality—could be conveyed through printed fabrics. From plush cushions and table linens to versatile home accessories, each piece in the collection carries the essence of Kutahya’s ceramics while offering a fresh, contemporary interpretation that fits into modern interiors.

This collection was developed in collaboration with the Pera Museum in Istanbul, one of Turkey’s leading art institutions. The Pera Museum is known for its dedication to preserving and sharing Turkey’s cultural heritage, with a vast collection that includes Anatolian weights and measures, Orientalist paintings, and, of course, Kutahya ceramics. Working closely with the museum’s curatorial and design teams, we ensured that every textile design not only reflected historical accuracy but also resonated with a modern audience.

For museums and art galleries, this project highlights how collaborative design can extend the visitor experience beyond the gallery walls. By reimagining traditional motifs in new forms, we help institutions offer thoughtful, story-driven products that inspire curiosity and deepen cultural connections. With the Kutahya Ceramics Inspired Textile Homeware Collection, we invite you to explore how centuries-old traditions can come alive in fresh, functional designs—pieces that your visitors will be proud to take home and cherish.
